Femina #2 Good Shoes

Artist Statement – Femina 2 -Good Shoes

How do I define feminine? Many defintions and cultual norns have been used through the ages for female and male. How each gender dresses is one of the defining norms. Though men have worn high heels and ruffles in history, in the past century gender has been has been well defined by attire Age, stage of life and social standing, could be recognized by a ones mode of dress. By mid 20th century, most femine imagery shows a woman in skirts and dresses, sometimes using sensual attire to almost objectify the female figure.

A century ago women’s roles were pretty rigid and expections were very different than we have today. I don't think I would be comfortable if I had to follow rules established by anyone other than myself. Mine was the first generation to wear trousers as daily attire, the first to wear see denim as a fashion statement. Sensable and sturdy work shoes have been replaced with fun flirty and even sexy footwear. A passion for shoes to complete an outfit can be demonstated by Carrie Bradshaw on the TV show- Sex and the City

Today, most contemproary women was can dress whatever way they like. The language they use is what they wear and they can articulate that style differently every day. Their shoes can be very serious or fun, glamorous or functional. High heels, sneakers, boots or loafers all play a role in the daily life of a woman.

I love the quote by Iris Aphel, when your hair is perfect and your shoes fit your style, you can rule the world. I take that anthem persoanlly becuase I think I can rule the day when I have on the perfect pair of shoes.

Technically this was a fun piece to make. I had fun making shoe appliques. As the seond in the series I use female silloutete in profile. Classical imagery using a very contemporary fabric Colors complement and speak to Femina #1 HAIR Dense quilting also haS "ghost" shoes quilted onto the piece.
