Diamonds Are a Girls Best Friend

I loved exploring ways that I have defined myself as a female.  I have been influenced since forever of what feminity looks like.  And I have enjoyed finding statements from women that have also influenced me.

How do I define feminine? Jewels!  Yes, men wear jewelry, but in today society women truly use jewelry as a both a fashion statement and also a sign for status. Nothing says success better than diamonds.

Homage to one of my favorite movies-Gentlemen Prefer Blonds-1953. The character, Loralie Lee, played by Marylin Monre was the image of a desirable female. Everything about Marylin defined WOMAN!

In this quilt used a lot of pink to reference the gown worn in the song, Diamonds Are A Ggrls Bst Friend.  The opera length gloves were a treasure hunt and were very fun way to display her jewels. they are lightly stuffed with cotton batting. The gloves are hand stitched onto the quilted background and hand beaded. 

In each Femina piece the background was created first with overall quilting.  In Diamonds, used vertical lines across the entire length, but added simple quilted diamond rings and necklaces.

The silhouette is similar to Femina 1 and 2 I added the sequined tuile over the tiara. This silouette refects the movie character with her hair style and the tiara she lusted after. Sparkly sunglasses finish the image . I tried to carry the bright colorful commercial fabrics into each piece.
