The Carrier of Light in the Darkness

My conversation with the earth in the winter is much like every other conversation I have with just about anyone else WHEN will the days get longer! My goddess is named after Hecate, the Greek goddess of the light.
She has many personalitites, but I chose to work with her queen of the night. In these dark winter days I often have a conversation with the earth about winter life and how we live through the quiet and dark nights. I am a seasonal person. I like the changes that occur throughout the year. I like to be outside. I am okay with cold weather, but since I have become older, I am less inclined to venture out in the snow, or dirive my car in inclement weather. And, most of all, I long for brighter days.

Cate has hair made from mixed textiles applied to tuile and stitched together. I made three different selections of textile to make for different lengths of hair. Her face is painted and then appliqued with scrap of fabric.

Her Crown is a scrap of vintage laxe which I painted with blue and grey paint.
The background is quilted first with black and metallic thread in the bobbin. The face and torso were applied after the background was completed. She is both hand and machine appliqued onto the surface.. I created more than one background before I chose the darkest, almost as if we is coming out of the dark night of winter
Her mittens are upcycled velveteen, with hand stitch.
