For my third piece in the 3-part-challenge Conversing with the Earth I had one piece of mud cloth of a relatively decent size left. (I am just waiting for the missing piece in reverse color to appear when reveal date has passed. But I am not actively searching, it would drive me crazy, I know.) I decided to pair it with a piece of linen I had once dyed with onion skins. I had never been too thrilled with the result as I thought the color intensity lacking, but now it has found its home.

Unfortunately I did not take many pictures of the process. I knew the title early on, and at first debated whether I should add a piece of text for a 'recipe' for Mud Pie - who in their childhood has not 'baked' a mud pie at some point? However, it didn't want to be written, instead, I have added waves and ripples in the quilting on the left hand side of the piece, as if looking down through water, which is a reminiscence to mud, too.

I did start stitching the recipe for Onion Cake (Tarte à l'oignon) on the onion-dyed pieces, and ran out of place before even finishing the list of ingredients. But that doesn't matter.

I may add a few more stitches in the white marks on the mud cloth, but haven't decided about that finally yet. Facing and sleeve have been finished, and this is what the piece looks like right now (debate about additional stitching is still ongoing):
