Architecture - challenge #4

bennett project

24” x 24”/61cm x 61cm

About 10 years ago, my husband and I bought a piece of property to build a home for us to retire to, a rural property. We enlisted a very young architect that was introduced to us by our proposed builder. We immediately clicked and knew we would be able to work with this very intuitive and creative new architect. He designed us the perfect home to fit in exactly with our surroundings. We couldn’t be happier with our experience.

In this challenge I have recreated our home using raw edge applique mixed in with pieced areas, incorporating hand dyed and commercial fabrics. I then added a simulation of our architect’s drawings using organza and overlaying it over the finished quilt. I hope this gives the illusion of our home in progress. I have added a corner covered with paper in order for viewers to lift the organza overlay and look more closely at the quilt underneath..

Please enjoy a couple of in progress photos and a couple of close up detailed pictures of the finished piece.
